A comprehensive win for the pirates against a Douglas side who were never allowed to settle by a dominant Pirates side. Straight from the kick off the home side set the tone, quick ball from ruck, good hands by the backs and David Walsh goes over for a try converted by Jack Hickey. From the re start Pirates are back in the Douglas 22 again and after more great play by backs and forwards Conor Regan crashes over for a try, Jack Hickey converts. At this stage Douglas are in shock Pirates are all over them again and from good ruck ball a kick ahead by Jack Hickey puts the Douglas full back under pressure David Walsh blocks his attempted clearance Colm O'Donovan picks up the loose ball draws the tackle and David Walsh is there again to score. Three more tries before half time, 2 by John Brennan and 1 by Dave Mulcahy saw Pirates lead by 38 nil.
The second half saw Pirates make use of the bench which allowed Douglas to come more into the game and for the first fifteen minutes Douglas dominated the play putting a lot of pressure on the home defence but Pirates weathered the storm and their line was not breached. After another good break from defence great handling saw Jim Cotter go over in the corner. Jack Hickey missed the conversion. The game is now up for Douglas and two more tries scored by John Brennan and David Walsh sealed a great win for the home side. This was a very good display of rugby by the Pirates which shows that the hard work being done by both the players and coaching staff is paying off, keep up the good work.
