John O'Sullivan has been appointed Head Coach of the Munster Youths for the coming season. He will be joining up with his fellow clubman Nick O'Keeffe, who has been the team manager for the past number of years and who has alot of experience with Munster rugby at this age level.
They will commence training on Bank Holiday Monday 5-May in Mallow. With an enlarged squad of 38 players.
Currently he is organising skills session’s which will be region based (Cork, Limerick and Waterford) which will be run by the regional coaches and will continue once a week for the summer. They will have full squad sessions for 3 Saturday’s in May – break in June for exams and full training every Saturday July till Oct.
The coaching /management team will consist of Head Coach (John O'Sullivan), Forwards Coach (Steve Forde), Backs Coach (Ronan O Donovan), Fitness Advisor (Kevin King), Manager (Nick O Keeffe) and a physiotherapist.
They will play Leinster and Connacht at home and Ulster away in Sept/October and there will be a semi-final / final run off in January

Munster’s record has not been good over the last 4 seasons – only winning 2 matches out of 12 played, it is hoped both John and Nick can help to turn this around over the coming season. John has recently retired from coaching the Irish Women's National Team after 2 seasons in charge.

The The much talked about Club Reunion has been set for 7:30pm, Saturday 15th December, 2007 at the clubhouse. The J1s will play Newport in the Munster Junior League in the afternoon, and we hope most ex-Club Members making the journey to Cobh for the day, will take in this game as well. We ask all members to forward this notification to as many ex-playing colleagues you may be in contact with in order to make the evening a success.

If you have old photos, etc... from playing days gone by, please contact rugby@cobhpirates.com about possible copies been made for display on the evening.

It is planned to make a montage of old photos and have these on display via the TVs in the clubhouse through out the night. Again, we ask for your support in making this night a success. [ Email ]

The website was revamped in order to make it easier to get the most recent updates and to include an ongoing effort for season '07/'08 to get more club news, juvenile fixtures & results, plus events, etc...outside the normal adult rugby coverage. I ask all team coaches, committee members, club members, etc... to forward as much news, match details and results in order to get the complete coverage on all apsects to the club. At any time, you can return to the main view and navigation menu, by clicking 'Home Page', or use the back button on the browser.
Many thanks in advance, Kieran McKeown, Rugby Officer. [ Email ]

Apologies to all true Pirates that frequent this site to get club fixtures, news, etc..., unfortunately, this is updated in my spare time, of which recently, I've had little. Thanks for your patience...onwards with season '07/'08, but, take a look at SEASON '06/'07 in <review.>

Juvenile Training: The u8/u9s provided the excitment last Saturday morning with a great training game, take a look at the photos...<details>

New Dressing Room Complex: The plans for the new dressing rooms are at an advanced stage, with planning permission ready for submittal. The project is under the supervision of Derry Allister, and at the last committee meeting, he presented the plans and outlined the various design decisions taken along the way. The dormer bungalow style building will consist of 4 large dressing rooms with self contained shower areas, a refs room, medical room, meeting room and various storage rooms on the ground floor, with a large gymasium with showers, etc.. along with team room on the first floor. Overall, the building works are scheduled to start towards the middle of next year, and hopefully ready for use within 4 to 6 months from the start date.

Players Gear Packs: The much talked about Club Reunion is back on the table and provisional date is the Saturday of the October Weekend. The only item that may force this date to move is the fixture schedule, we shall definitely know the exact date for the event by the 1st October.

New Player: Cobh Pirates RFC would like to welcome Phil Weir to the Club. Phil recently arrived from Canada after spending 12 months there both studying and playing rugby. Phil is a native of Hamilton, NZ, and product of Waikato University, he plays both sides of the scrum, but, his preferred position is tight head. He will spend the season with Pirates and we wish him the very best for the coming months.

Also, it is good to see so many old faces back training, keep up the effort lads, and hopefully the silver ware will come by the end of the season.
