Cobh Pirates RFC welcome

Cobh Pirates R.F.C.
President: 2008 - Present
Mr. Tony G. Hobbs

Dear Visitor,

As we embark on another new season I would like to extend the warmest possible welcome to all of our membership - players, coaches ,committee and trustees. I would also like to welcome those who may not have joined us yet but have availed of the opportunity to visit our excellent club website.

Having being elected Club President this year I have to thank the members for giving me this honour and tell you ,in honesty, that it represents the single most important honour that I have ever received and is something for which I am immensely proud of but extremely humble in accepting. The club I am now President of is a vastly different and better club than the one I was actively involved particularly in the eighties. At that time both training and clubhouse facilities were virtually none existent and the task of providing proper facilities was huge thereby restricting the development of the playing side to a level that we needed. Through a combination of players at all levels on the pitch and several of the committees the Pirates have managed to turn the situation totally around.

Looking back I believe that a combination of factors such as the sense of being a Pirate, a growing youth and under age set up, the never ending pride of wearing the club colours and sheer hard work on and off the field delivered the successful club that we now have. Going forward the wheel does not have to be reinvented as these attributes will continue to deliver success off and ,more importantly, on the field. The huge coaching commitment that the youth and under age structures represent for the club will be the building blocks for the future . Also the very wise and shrewd development of our internal coaching staff is another corner stone of out future development. It is vital that we all play our part in growing the club in terms of recruiting additional players and overall membership. I would ask all of you to set a task for yourself of trying to bring one new player / member each into the club in the coming season. It may be a former player , a brother, sister or work mate it does not really matter as long as we can continue to grow and build the club for the future.

I would like to wish all the players, coaches and committee the very best of luck in their work for the club in the coming season. I pledge my full support for all their efforts and offer myself to work in any way or capacity required for the development of our club. Finally I would like to thank you all for the honour you have bestowed on me by choosing me as your club President and I hope that I can repay this trust by doing everything in my power to move the club further ahead.

Best of luck to everyone ,especially the players for the season ahead.

Yours in rugby,
Tony Hobbs
