Cobh Pirates RFC welcome
Cobh Pirates R.F.C. |
Dear Visitor,
As the incoming President for the new season, I would like to welcome you to the Cobh Pirates Rugby Football Club Website.
To give you a little insight to my "Rugby Self", I started playing underage Rugby with Pirates in 1971, with the following, ( forgive me if I left you out) whom I'm sure are very familiar to you through their long association with the Club. John Cahill, Maurice Kidney, Joe Geary, Cully & Oscar O'Connell, Brock, Damien Ahern, John & Dodger Kinevane, John Dowdall. Brian Stockdale.Peter O'Sullivan, John Gleeson.R.I.P.
I continued playing up to J1 Level until 1990 when I started Coaching at underage.
As you can see from the above names, some of them are still very much involved in the Club, in Coaching, Refereeing etc. Or just as important, lending vocal support at Club matches.
I have seen many changes in the Club since 1971, when the changing facilities was a "Ford Box", compare to what we have today. The progression to today's excellent facilities, is due to dedication from various "Pirates" Committees over the last 36 years, who with a bit of insight, a love of Rugby, and in particular Cobh Pirates, and finally with a lot of hard work. We should be grateful to all of them for today's "Paddocks".
The Club is currently making progress on our latest assignment, the building of new separate Changing Facilities, incorporating, dressing & shower Rooms, able to accomodate both male & female teams independently, gym, referees room, medical room, storerooms etc etc.
Please support any fund raising events organised to help with the cost of this project.
I wish Club Coach, Ian Dunne, and all his Coaching Staff & Players the very best of luck for the coming season and the same to Juvenile Chairman, Greg Higgins and all involved in our underage Section.
Hopefully I will see you at all Pirate matches for the coming Season.
Yours in rugby,
Eddie McCarthy
